Email not working on iOS 5?

Hello, I got iOS 5 the other day and all apps and utilities seem to be working fine, although today when I tried to email my friend using my @me.com email from icloud, it showed the loading circle and said sending... but no message was sent, there is no history of the message in my sent mailbox. Then, I tried sending it from my gmail account and still nothing, email whatsoever is working on my iPhone 4. Any ideas?
