How do i ship items after selling them on ebay?

i already have a envelope it fits in it and i could print the shipping label on it but if i do that could i just put it in in my mailbox to ship or do i need to go to the post office. ps. only weighs about 9oz. also not a regular envelope like with a stamp its silver and about the same height and width as a book.
